Our client was looking for a whole-house battery backup solution and approached us to design a system that would work together with a new PV solar installation and provide enough capacity to power their home during a power outage. We did a load calculation and proposed to install a single LG Chem Resu10 battery connected to a SolarEdge StorEdge inverter. The battery, inverter were installed inside the garage, the existing electrical panels were replaced with state-of-the-art Leviton load centers, and a new backed-up loads panel was installed with the protected circuits moved over. One of the benefits of having solar with battery backup solution is that during an outage, the solar production continues uninterrupted and charges the batteries as they are being used – meaning that the battery really needs to have enough capacity to make it through the night, and as soon as the sun comes out, the battery can start recharging without any power interruption. Additionally, using SolarEdge monitoring platform, both solar power production and battery status can be monitored in real-time via a cloud-based monitoring platform directly on a smartphone or desktop computer. This allows for real-time adjustment of the home’s consumption in order to extend the battery’s capacity as long as possible. HVAC and other high load appliances typically cannot be backed up – but lights, refrigeration, fans, sump/sewer pumps, entertainment, and most importantly – Internet can be backed up during a power outage!
All our solar and battery backup installs are custom designed to fit the need, budget, and aesthetic goals of the homeowner – find out today how you can start producing clean, renewable electricity at your home, and be power your home during power outages.
